Tordi is a Florentine institution and a neighbourhood cornerstone: for around fifty years this family shop has kept the traditions of Florentine cooking alive, with a level of personal service and knowledge behind the counter that is increasingly hard to find. For a dinner at Abitazione, ask for a cut that suits the oven rather than the grill — an arista of pork roasted with rosemary and garlic, or beef braised slowly in red wine as a stracotto. Both improve with time, and both make the house smell the way a Florentine kitchen should. Buy it in the morning, and cook it at home in the evening.
