In the Uffizi’s autumn galleries, Magnifico 1492 brings together over a hundred works — paintings, sculptures, gems, bronzes and hardstones — that reconstruct Lorenzo de’ Medici’s collection as it was inventoried in the year of his death. Loans from major international institutions, returned to the rooms the pieces occupied in the family’s palace on Via Larga. It is a serious scholarly project with the quality of a very well-made argument about what the Renaissance was actually thinking.
