19 April – 1 July
Il Teatro del Maggio Musicale, Florence
Back for its 88th edition, Italy’s oldest and most prestigious music festival, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Festival, returns for 2026 with a program that bridges contemporary vision with the warbling heights of the classical canon. Running from April 19 to July 1, 2026, the festival continues its legacy of artistic innovation, opening with a historic first for Florence: John Adams’ controversial and powerful opera, The Death of Klinghoffer, directed by cinematic visionary Luca Guadagnino.
Under the rigorous musical direction of Daniele Gatti, this season is anchored by an ambitious cycle of Beethoven’s complete symphonies, culminating in a grand performance of the Ninth Symphony to close the festival. Other operatic highlights include Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera and Händel’s Giulio Cesare.
