This market wasn’t grand or designed for instagram. It was lived-in, loved-in. Neighbours called out greetings over stacks of artichokes. The rhythm here was slow and social, a soft rebellion against the urgency of the city centre…

Ceramic Session with Jacqueline Harberink

This private ceramic session is led by Dutch artist Jacqueline Harberink, whose work explores form, tactility, and the delicate balance between strength and fragility.

Guests are welcomed into her working studio for a hands-on experience. Under her guidance, you will shape and refine your own piece — learning how pressure, movement, and patience transform raw clay into something expressive and enduring. No prior experience is required. The focus is not perfection, but presence.

Your finished piece will be fired and glazed after the session and shipped to you, a tactile memory of Florence arriving weeks later at your door.

The studio was quieter than the city outside.

On the table lay simple tools, bowls of water, and a block of pale clay waiting to be shaped. No machines, no spectacle. Just material and time.

Jacqueline spoke of porcelain as something both stubborn and delicate. It could crack if hurried. It could collapse if overworked. It demanded attention.

We will transport you to this day-long experience of wine and Bistecca in Chianti, inspired by the larger-than-life figure of Dario Cecchini.

Your day starts by visiting some of our favourite vineyards, taking the time to taste and explore the reborn Chianti wine region. You could add a visit to a charming Alpaca farm, home to the finest Cashmere. We then travel to Panzano, where you can revel in a convivial lunch at Dario’s famed Officina de la Bistecca. While Dario is well known for his television appearances, it is his family business that attracts yet more admiration locally, as this truly is a meat lover’s heaven. And there will always be a table waiting for you.

Every Part of The Cow

We travelled up through the Via Chiantigiana. It felt like only this morning I was admiring those very hills from afar – how they looked like models.

Here we were, in a car, following this ribbon of a road up to sample steak. How good could it be?

Bistecca worth the travel. An approach passed down for 250 years, they use every part of the animal here. The wine came in mythical volumes, and this was a front row seat for Italy itself.

Jason Arkles, an award-winning American sculptor and art historian, has called Florence home for nearly three decades. Renowned as the only American with a large marble figure permanently displayed in Florence, Jason also hosts the popular “The Sculptor’s Funeral Podcast.” You will meet him in his studio, located in a Renaissance Palazzo by the Arno River. It can be a candid conversation over coffee, or experiencing the art of figurative sculpture through a hands-on session. Acquisto Mobili, Antichità e Restauro di Bruno Balzano

Only moments from our Abitazione, this charming antique store may look small on the outside. But in truth it is a treasure trove of charmingly restored paintings, a stack of bronze candlesticks here, some beautiful wooden furniture there, and the perfect spot for post-brunch exploration.

If you happen to rise early, you’ll appreciate the quick skip over the road to Pasticceria Blasio, where breakfast is included as part of your stay. Here you’ll find the day’s delicacies of filled croissants, hand-crafted cannoli filled deep with crema and of course, great coffee. Equally enjoyable, and just as local, is Caffe Lietta, ideal for a light lunch or even a sunset aperitivo al fresco. You’ll soon see why these cafes are ever popular with the locals.

On the corner of Viale Don Giovanni Minzoni and Via Antonio Giaomini is the local butcher who has been serving the locals in this area for many a year.

With the vegetables you have acquired from the market, treat yourself to their recommendation of thinly sliced meats, Bistecca or even a truffle burger.

A long rambling street of great variety. From charming local spots like the Antica Trattoria da Tito, to walls filled with signatures, staff in good spirits (order a cappuccino at your peril), and great food. Explore further for sophisticated discoveries of charming antique stores and gelaterias, and galleries such as Crumb Gallery (showcasing the best emerging female art talent).

Antica occhialeria

A store, a workshop, an institution. This branch of artisan eyewear brand Antica Occhialeria, is a great stop whether you need a new pair of frames or just like to indulge in the Florentine style.

Started by founder Lucio Enrico Di Nardo, an optician and collector of vintage glasses, they are known for their attention to detail and chic designs. A browse alone is worth a visit.

Gelateria Badiani

The original Gelateria Badiani on Viale dei Mille has been a favourite of Florence for many years., and a short stroll from This Time Tomorrow.

Founded by Idilio Badiani in 1932, this neighbourhood institution first gained fame for serving the first semifreddi—creamy, half-frozen desserts originally served only in winter. 

In 1993, the Pomposi family took over the business, preserving Badiani’s historic roots while elevating its reputation as one of Florence’s finest addresses for artisanal gelato and classic Italian pastries.

A stone’s throw from the hotel is a modest botanical garden built in the 1800s, containing an antique greenhouse and horticultural library. At the top of the site, you’ll find the Orti del Parnaso, a communal garden hiding eclectic sculptures (which we’ll let you experience for yourself).

Cantucci e vin santo

Don’t leave Florence without trying the Cantucci dipping ritual in Vin Santo. At the end of their meal, Florentines love to dip small almond-filled biscuits, Cantucci, in a local sweet wine called Vin Santo. This end-of-meal custom is the most indulgent and traditional treat on offer when visiting the city.

While we don’t operate a restaurant on-site, we’re fortunate to be surrounded by a handful of excellent eateries—each just a short walk away, each with its own character. These are not merely recommendations but trusted neighbours who know our guests and welcome them as friends.

From the rustic comfort of Cucchietta to the seafood specialities of Il Piccolo Pescatore, the nostalgic trattoria charm of Pantarei, the refined simplicity of Santa Barbara, the lively Tuscan spirit of Perseus, and the warm, familiar hospitality at next-door Alfredo—where owner-chef Mario is pictured smiling with a bounty of porcini—each table tells a story.

Away from the tourist crowds, and amongst the bustling locals, you can experience Florentine markets brimming with delicacies to try. Head to Mercato di Sant’Ambrogio or Mercato della Cure where you will find the best cheese, cured meats and seasonal fruit and vegetables. Head back to your residence with a bottle of Chianti under your arm to enjoy an intimate homemade meal ‘at home’.

Caffe bialetti

While you will no doubt be enjoying many of the local caffes Florence has to offer, it is best to start the day the Italian way with a steaming hot cup of Moka-made coffee. Each residence comes with a Bialetti induction Moka, a modern version of the classic 30’s model.

This loved device is a design classic, believed to be designed by Alfonso Bialetti, who became inspired when observing his wife using a lessiveuse (an older version of a washing machine that drew soapy water up through a central tube when heated).

If you’re staying a little longer and wish to explore beyond the city, we recommend a day trip through the rolling Tuscan hills, where postcard landscapes and storied villages await.

Greve, often considered the heart of the Chianti region and birthplace of explorer Giovanni Verrazzano, makes for a perfect stop. Several of our curated wine excursions are based around this charming village, including visits to estates such as Castello di Albola, Tenuta Casenuove, Fonterutoli, Tenuta degli Dei, and Renzo Marinai—each offering a taste of Tuscany’s winemaking heritage.

Antique markets in Lucca and Arezzo

While in Florence, consider a day trip to the monthly antique markets in Lucca and Arezzo—two of Tuscany’s most atmospheric towns.

Lucca, with its intact Renaissance walls and leafy promenades, hosts its market on the third weekend of each month, spreading through its historic centre.

Arezzo, once an Etruscan capital, holds Italy’s largest antique fair on the first Sunday of each month and the preceding Saturday, filling Piazza Grande with treasures and vintage finds. Both towns pair rich history with the joy of discovery.
