In Guéliz, Pétanque Social Club occupies a restored pétanque hall from the 1930s, its original court still in the garden, and in the cooler months its fire pits make it the natural place to end an evening.

Guéliz, after dinner
The club is the newest of Kamal Laftimi’s Marrakech addresses — he is also behind NOMAD and Le Jardin — and the rooms were designed by the Ibiza studio DiegoandAlexeja: terrazzo floors and a marble bar, velvet and chandeliers set against 1970s club chairs from La Mamounia and African stools. The kitchen is French-Mediterranean more than Moroccan, with oven-roasted cauliflower, zaalouk and plates from the grill, and the bar runs to cocktails and a glass of rosé in the garden.
By day the garden is an oasis for a long lunch and a game of boules; by night it turns to mood lighting, wicker lanterns and open fires — informal, and busy without being loud. The entrance is discreet, a doorbell on the street with your reservation as the code, and it stays open late, until one in the morning and two at the weekend.
